Alexa had modeling offers from several Indianapolis area senior photographers. I’m sure you can see why! 🙂 I interviewed her a couple of weeks ago, and she was very interested, but wanted to see what the other studios could offer her. I told her and her mom that was fine. I don’t want anyone to make a quick decision and regret it later, I want them to be genuinely excited about the opportunity.
I’m not sure if it was my benefits, or my photography that swayed her, but after some time to look at the other studios… they decided that I was the best choice for them!
Alexa is an athlete through and through! She is a runner and a swimmer. We are going to incorporate both of those interests into her senior pictures, but I am most excited about her swimming images that I have planned. When we are done, Michael Phelps will envy her swim pics… and I am not talking about the one that got him in trouble! 🙂
This is Andrea, my new Class of 2010 Senior Model. She saw some pics I did of her friends Melani and Michelle, and really liked the images I did of them. So, she called me up and set up an interview and test shoot. Obviously, I liked her style. I mean, what’s not to like? She is naturally beautiful!
Andrea is an artist. She showed me a piece she is working on and I was blown away! She had a snapshot of a drawing on her cell phone, and I thought is was a sculpture at first. The “depth” of the image was that good! She is obviously someone with great talent and discipline.
We talked about a few ideas for her senior pictures… something that will show her artistic side. What we came up with will seriously challenge my photoshop skills, but I am up for the challenge, and very excited about it.
If you have spent any time at all at http://miketurnerphotography.com/ you know that there are very few guys on there. That’s not by design, it’s just that most of my business has been girls *shrug*
Like most guys, Alex didn’t really have too much interest in getting his senior pictures done. Luckily for me, his mom found my card at Contagious Hair Salon http://www.myspace.com/contagioussalon down in Greenwood. That is where my wife gets her hair done, & I also did some engagement pictures for one of the stylists down there, Teri.
Talking to Alex’s mom, I found out that he wants to be a police officer… So, I called up my friend Fred, who works for IMPD. I told him what was up, & he said “As long as we don’t take any provocative pictures that would get me in trouble, we can use my car.” I assured him that was not in the plans lol.
We had a blast doing senior photos for Alex! I’m pretty sure he is thrilled with the results. Here are a handful of my favorites.
Katie is my newest Class of 2010 Senior Model. She saw my facebook ad for models wanted, and thought “Hey, I know that girl!” It was her friend Karly, seen in an earlier blog entry. So, Karly gets credit and my thanks on this one. With so many photographers doing facebook advertising… Karly’s pretty face made the difference. 🙂
Katie was great in her test shoot. She is very photogenic and has an infectious smile. She is in showchoir, so I threatened to make her sing for me haha. I think that freaked her out a little. 🙂
Most photographers come from an artistic background. I am no exception. I am a singer/songwriter. I have been playing guitar since early high school. In 2003, I decided to write and record a CD of my own music. It was kinda my last “hoorah” in music I guess. You see, I was starting a family at the time and realized I had nothing to show for all of my years of playing music… besides maybe some hearing loss from playing in Mike Smith’s basement for all of them years. 🙂
If you would like a copy, just ask & I will give you one. It is really good. I am very proud of the music I created, but am I the next big thing in music? No way. But I will tell you about a band that might be…. SHOULD BE!
I was wanting some cool music for my website, and I love to support unsigned artists when I can. So, I started going through the bands that are my “friends” on Myspace to see if I could cross promote with someone who I thought had great music.
I came upon The Everyday People http://theeverydaypeople.com/ and I loved their sound so much that I didn’t even ASK anyone else! They were gracious enough to let me use their music on my site, & I will as soon as I figure out how to re-size a song to a smaller file… I am still learning about website stuff. Ugh!
So… let me tell you a little about this CD. It is unbelievable! The songwriting, the musicianship, Jeffery David’s amazing vocals… all top notch! You can hear their music for yourself at http://theeverydaypeople.com/ but you really need to buy the CD to truly appreciate it. The sound quality is comparable to a multi-million dollar production that you get from nationally signed artists. Actually, it is better than a lot of “big name” bands. Sonically, every instrument seems to have it’s own “space”. For example, on my favorite song “The Hard Way” you can still very clearly hear the acoustic guitar even when the song is rockin’ the power chords. You find this clarity throughout the entire CD. It sounds good on a computer, but you really need to buy the disc so you can hear it on a nice sound system. It is worth it, I promise.
And the best part… there is not a single song that you will want to skip. But you might push rewind to hear one again before moving on. 🙂
This Class of 2010 Senior Model can probably kick your butt!
Charlotte started Tae Kwon Do at around 11 or 12 years old. In 2003, she placed 4th in the nation at the Junior Olympics, held in Orlando Florida. This might partially explain why she caries herself with such poise and confidence. I was really impressed with Charlotte when she was in front of the camera… and when she wasn’t.
Chelsey was a lot of fun to photograph. I typically only spend a short time in the test shoot, but I can tell we are going to have a blast together this spring when we do her first full session.
She was actually one of the first students to respond to my Facebook add, but she scheduled her interview out so far that we didn’t actually meet until this past weekend.
Chelsey says she is a typical teenage girl who just loves to hang with her friends. With her sweet personality, I bet that keeps her really busy. 🙂
Ok, so I am finally finished with updating this blog with content from the old blog. Now I am ready to introduce some of my more recent Class of 2010 Senior Models. There is still some pretty cool stuff in the archives of the old blog http://miketurnerphoto.blogdrive.com/ but I wanted all of my 2010 team in one place.
Melani saw the free web pic that I sent to Michelle. They go to school together & that is how she found out about me. She says that she likes to change up her hair color so I think we are going to get some great variety from her on our next 2 photo shoots. – All of my senior models get 2 free shoots… Just one of the perks of my program. 🙂
2010 Senior Model. She found me on Facebook as well. I have met a lot of great Indiana high school students there, as well as reunited with many old friends from MY high school days.
Michelle has both beauty and brains. She loves to read, so we are planning on doing part of her senior pictures in a library. I think it will be a very interesting concept for her senior pics. She also loves outdoorsy stuff, so we will do plenty of photos outside as well.
What a beautiful girl! Karly is a natural in front of the camera. I was very impressed with her right from the first click of the shutter. She is involved in the theater department at school, and they are doing “Singing in the Rain” this year. If her teacher will allow it, I am going to come to the dress rehearsal & get some images of Karly in action. This will be a great opportunity for me to get some really interesting images for my portfolio, as well as capture this special time of her life in an artistic way. I can’t wait!
